Surah An Naba

Quran Chapter 78

In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful.

What are they asking one another about?

About the extraordinary news.

That they are in disagreement over.

Indeed, they will surely know.

Indeed, once again, they will surely know.

Didn’t We make the earth a cradle?

And the mountains as pegs?

And created you in pairs?

And made your sleep for rest?

And made the night a cover?

And made the day for livelihood?

And built above you seven firmaments?

And placed therein a shining lamp?

And sent down, from the rain-clouds, abundant water?

To produce with it grains and plants.

And lush, luxuriant gardens?

The Day of Sorting is an appointed time.

The Day the Trumpet will be blown, and you will come in crowds.

And the sky is opened, and it becomes gateways.

And the mountains will be set in motion, becoming a mirage.

Hell is a lurking threat.

A destination for the oppressors.

Where they will remain for eons.

They won’t taste therein any coolness or drink.

Except boiling water and freezing cold hail.

An appropriate recompense.

For they were not expecting accountability.

And they denied Our verses with vehement denial.

But all things We’ve accounted for in writing.

So taste; We will only increase your suffering.

For the righteous, however, there is triumph.

Gardens and vineyards.

And companions of equal age.

And a full cup.

They won’t hear therein any vain talk or sinful speech.

A reward from your Lord, a generous gift as calculated.

The Lord of the heavens and the earth, and what’s between them, the Most Merciful. None can converse with Him.

On the Day when the Spirit and the angels will stand in rows, they won’t speak, except for one whom the Most Merciful allows, who will say what’s right.

That is the Day of Truth. So whoever wills, let them seek a way to his Lord.

We have warned you of a near punishment—the Day when a person will see what his hands have forwarded, and the unbeliever will say, “I wish I were mere dust!”
