Surah Ad Dukhan

Quran Chapter 44

In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful.

Ha, Meem.

By the clear, enlightening Scripture.

We revealed it on a blessed night—We’ve been warning.

On that night, every wise matter is made distinct.

A command from Us—We’ve been sending messengers.

As a mercy from your Lord—He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.

The Lord of the heavens and the earth, and all that’s between them—if you are certain.

There is no god but He. He gives life and causes death—your Lord and the Lord of your ancestors.

Still, they are playing in doubt.

Await the day when the sky will bring visible smoke.

It will envelop the people: this is a painful punishment.

“Our Lord, lift from us the punishment; we are believers.”

How can there be a reminder for them, since a clear Messenger has already come to them?

Yet they turned away from him and said, “He is tutored, a madman.”

We will withdraw the punishment a little. But you will surely return.

The Day We will strike with the greatest assault—We will take revenge.

Before them, We tested the people of Pharaoh, when a noble messenger came to them.

“Hand over to me God’s servants. I am definitely a reliable messenger to you.

And don’t exalt yourselves against God; I’ve come to you with clear authority.

I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me.

If you don’t believe me, then keep your distance from me.”

Then, he implored his Lord, “These are criminal people.”

“Depart with My servants by night—you will be pursued.

And leave the sea in stillness; they are soldiers to be drowned.”

How many gardens and springs did they leave behind?

And fields and noble sites.

And comfort wherein they were amused.

Thus, and We made it an inheritance for another people.

Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they reprieved.

We rescued the Children of Israel from the degrading torment.

From Pharaoh. He was a tyrant, an oppressor.

And We knowingly chose them over the worlds.

We gave them signs in which there were transparent trials.

Yet these people say:

“There is only our first death, and we won’t be resurrected.

Then bring back our ancestors, if you are truthful.”

Are they better than the people of Tubba and those before them? We destroyed them because they were criminals.

We didn’t create the heavens, the earth, and everything in between in play.

We created them only in truth, but most of them don’t know.

The Day of Decision is their appointed time, all of them.

The Day when no relation will avail a relation at all, nor will they be helped.

Except those on whom God has mercy. He is the Mighty, the Merciful.

The Tree of Bitterness.

Food of the sinners.

Like molten brass, it boils in the bellies.

Like the boiling of seething water.

“Grab him and drag him into the middle of the Hellfire.

Then, pour over his head from the suffering of the Inferno.

Taste! For you are the mighty, the noble one!

This is what you used to question.”

As for the righteous, they will be in a safe place.

Amid gardens and springs.

Clothed in fine silk and heavy brocade, facing each other.

Thus. And We will pair them with pure companions with beautiful eyes.

They will call for fruit therein, in peace and tranquility.

Therein, they will taste no death, beyond the first death. And He will shield them from the torment of Hellfire.

As a bounty from your Lord. That is the grand success.

We’ve made it easy in your language, so they may reflect.

So, wait. They too are waiting.
