In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful.
1. Alif. Lam. Ra. These are the verses of the Scripture—a Quran that explains with clarity.
2. Perhaps those who disbelieve would wish that they had been Submitters.
3. Let them eat, enjoy, and let false hope distract them. Soon they will know.
4. We’ve never destroyed a community that didn’t have a known term.
5. No community can accelerate or postpone its appointed time.
6. They said, “O you to whom the reminder was revealed, you are surely deranged.”
7. “Why don’t you bring us the angels, if you are truthful?”
8. We only send down angels in truth, and they wouldn’t be restrained.
9. Surely, it is We who revealed the Message, and it is We who will preserve it.
10. We sent messengers before you to the ancient communities.
11. Yet every messenger that came to them was ridiculed.
12. Thus, We subtly instill it into the hearts of the criminals.
13. They will not have faith in it, though the ways of the ancients have passed away.
14. Even if we were to open up a gate into heaven for them, and they kept ascending through it.
15. They would still say, “Our eyes are tricked; we are under a spell.”
16. We positioned constellations in the sky, and We beautified it for the observers.
17. And We protected it from every accursed devil.
18. Except those who stealthily eavesdrop; a piercing flame pursues them.
19. And We spread the earth, and placed stabilizers upon it, and fostered balanced growth within it.
20. We made it a habitat for you and for those you don’t sustain.
21. There is not a thing but that with Us are its storehouses, and We dispense it in known measure.
22. We send winds as pollinators, and We bring down water from the sky, providing you with it to drink. You don’t possess its reserves.
23. It is We who give life and cause death, and We are the Inheritors.
24. We know those among you who advance, and we know those who lag behind.
25. Your Lord will gather them all; He is All-Wise, All-Knowing.
26. We created man from clay, from molded mud.
27. Beforehand, We created the jinn from scorching fire.
28. Your Lord told the angels, “I am creating a human being from clay, from molded mud.”
29. “Once I have shaped him and breathed into him of My Spirit, fall in prostration before him.”
30. So, all the angels prostrated themselves collectively.
31. Except for Iblis, he refused to be among those who prostrated.
32. He asked, “O Iblis, what prevented you from prostrating with those who prostrated?”
33. He replied, “I will not prostrate to a human You created from clay, from molded mud.”
34. He said, “Depart from here, for you are a banished outcast.
35. And the curse will be upon you until Judgment Day.”
36. He pleaded, “My Lord, delay me until the Day they’re resurrected.”
37. He responded, “You are granted delay.
38. Until the appointed day and time.”
39. “Lord,” he declared, “since you have lured me away, I will glamorize for them on earth, and I will lure them all away.”
40. Except for Your chosen servants among them.”
41. He replied, “This is a straight path to Me.
42. You have no sway over My devotees, except those who follow you of the deviators.
43. And hell is promised to them all.
44. It has seven gates. For every gate, there is a designated portion of them.
45. The righteous will be in gardens and springs.”
46. “Enter it in peace, securely.”
47. We will remove from their hearts all ill feelings; they will be brethren, lounging on couches, facing one another.
48. No fatigue will touch them there, nor will they ever be asked to leave.
49. Inform My beings that I am the Forgiving, the Merciful.
50. And that My punishment is the painful punishment.
51. Relate to them the story of Abraham’s guests.
52. When they entered his presence, they greeted him with “Peace.” He responded, “We are uneasy about you.”
53. They reassured him, “Fear not; we bring you good news of a wise son.”
54. He asked, “How can you bring such news, given my advanced age? So what gives you this good news?”
55. They replied, “Indeed, we bring you truthful news, so don’t lose hope.”
56. He said, “None despairs of his Lord’s mercy except those who have strayed.”
57. He then inquired, “What’s your mission, O messengers?”
58. They replied, “We’ve been sent to a people steeped in sin.”
59. “Except for Lot’s family—we will rescue them all.”
60. “Except for his wife.” We had decreed that she would be among those left behind.
61. When the messengers came to Lot’s family.
62. He said, “You are a people unknown to me.”
63. They replied, “We brought you what they’ve been doubting.”
64. “We’ve brought you the truth, and indeed, we are truthful.”
65. “Leave with your family during the cover of night, and follow their footsteps. Let none of you look back, and proceed as instructed.”
66. We informed him of this mandate: “The last remnants of these people will be cut off by morning.”
67. And the people of the city came rejoicing.
68. He pleaded, “These are my guests, so don’t dishonor me.”
69. “And fear God, and don’t embarrass me.”
70. They replied, “Didn’t we forbid you from strangers?”
71. He responded, “These are my daughters, if you must act.”
72. By your life, they were in their intoxication, blundering.
73. Then, the blast seized them at sunrise.
74. We turned it upside down, and We rained upon them stones of baked clay.
75. In this, there are signs for those who discern.
76. It was located on an established road.
77. In that is a sign for the believers.
78. The inhabitants of the wooded valley were also wrongdoers.
79. So, We exacted retribution from them. Both were visible from the main road.
80. Similarly, the inhabitants of the Rocky Tract rejected the messengers.
81. We presented them with Our signs, but they turned away from them.
82. They used to carve secure homes into the mountains.
83. Yet, the sudden blast seized them at dawn.
84. All that they had acquired availed them not.
85. We created the heavens and the earth, and what lies between them, with truth. The Hour is certainly coming, so overlook with beautiful forgiveness.
86. Surely your Lord, He is the Creator, the All-Knowing.
87. We’ve given you seven pairs, and the Grand Quran.
88. Don’t extend your eyes towards what We gave certain classes of them to enjoy, and don’t grieve over them. Instead, show kindness to the believers.
89. Say, “I am the clear warner.”
90. Just as We had revealed to the separatists.
91. Those who made the Quran into shreds.
92. By your Lord, We will surely interrogate them all.
93. About what they used to do.
94. So proclaim what you’re commanded, and turn away from the idolaters.
95. We are sufficient for you against the mockers.
96. Those who set up another deity with God—they will find out.
97. We know that what they say causes you distress.
98. So, glorify your Lord with praise, and be of the ones who bow down.
99. And worship your Lord until certainty comes to you.
